I was given a mystery beer; I dig this challenge. As I am trying to develop my palate further, this is only helping me achieve those goals. The beer is in a brown paper bag with a mystery on it. The alcohol content is also written on the paper; it is a healthy 7 plus. I will select my new IPA glass to serve the beer in. The beer is about 44 degrees. The pour created a massive three-fingered head with excellent retention. After I popped the tab, orange and toasted malts emitted. The off-white head is airy and foamy, leaving some lacing on the glass. The color is pale straw with amber hues charting close to SRM 6. The beer's appearance is above average.

The initial aromas in the beer are grapefruit, resin, biscuit, lightly toasted malts, and oranges. Nosing further, I detect herbal (akin to bay leaves), floral esters, a hint of band-aids, fresh morning dew, and a subtle dankness. Classic IPA aromas.

The beers Hops has settled the malt profile is thick and heavy. I do get pine resin, floral esters, pharmaceuticals, dankness, a touch of cardboard, oranges, grapefruit, toasted malts, and eucalyptus.

The mouthfeel of the beer is oily, slick, and coating.

The body of the beer is medium-plus, medium-low carbonation, and a long finish.

I know this beer is an IPA; I would not entirely say it is DIPA; although the malt backbone is massive. The hops are aggressive but faded a touch. Pulling back the cloak on this beer and it is an Imperial IPA. The beer lacks harmony with the hops. Ah, Dust Bowl Brewing; I spent an afternoon here drinking with my brother. The beer is good, but I would not say memorable. I did enjoy drinking this monster as it cooled in Idaho.

Canned on 03-25-21.

A - Pours a clear dark golden orange color with thin dense lacing and light carbonation.

S - Overall aroma is low with citrus and berry being the standouts.

T - Pine and alcohol dominate this beer from start to finish with a little bit of berry and citrus mixed in. Underneath is a nice subtle bed of pineapple, black current, and citrus, if you dig far enough into it you'll detect some floral notes. The ABV is definitely not shy in this beer.

M - Thick and borderline syrupy with an immense amount of heat on the way down.

O - I would not be opposed to the brewer dialing the ABV back a few points so the hops can "do their thing". At 14.5% the booziness overpowers anything and everything else in the glass.
