It looks great, yet perhaps odinary for the style. Once the contents of a pint can have been entirely emptied into a clear glass liter mug, the black coffee brown color of the liquid can be observed. On top, a healthy dose of dark tan/light brown head that's on the foamy side. Roasted barley is what the nose gets, in abundance. The label claims that this is dark, rich and robust. Well, the dark is already accomplished. The described notes of dark chocolate, coffee and blackstrap molasses are so right on, it's hard to believe that it's just a description of the flavors and not actually a list of things added. Maybe there's just a little too much burnt, rather than roasted barley and coffee taste references. But, the blackstrap molasses, although not dominate, is incredibly accurate. There's good stratified glass lacing and an enduring head. Overall, this is full-flavored, with a couple of layers to discern.
Simply a great tasting Imperial American Stout. The mouthfeel isn't entirely up to all the other attributes, but this is one excellent American stout.
