Split a 16oz can of this just out of the fridge at 40 degrees, right after sharing a 2018 BCBS regular, and I have to say I was impressed! The coffee is a bit stronger than the maple on the nose and palate but otherwise I have no complaints about this non-BA porter!! Definitely would buy again

Fantastic imperial porter starting right with the beautiful and fluffy tan foam head pour on a pitch black body. Smell stars the dark roast coffee, roasted malt, and dark chocolate, with the really sweet maple as the dance partner, with vanilla and char in the background. Taste sees the dark coffee and maple lead powerfully, with some chocolate and malt, changing a lot of the nuance in the smell, but still very good though simpler. Maple and coffee junkies get your fix! Feel has the sweet adjuncts sitting atop a roasted and robust porter wanting to break out, with the creaminess tying it all together as one nicely. Very im-PRESSED!

16oz tallboy can poured into Hill Farmstead bulb.

Appearance: midnight black bodied beer. Thick medium khaki colored head. Thick lacing everywhere on the glass. You can actually see each sip that I took from the lacing lines on the side of the glass.

Smell: chocolate, maple, and coffee.

Taste: The beer starts sweet and ends with bitter coffee. Maple leads the way when you taste the beer. It starts off rich and sweet transitioning to earthy flavored maple. Mid palate you start to taste a lot of chocolate and a hint of vanilla. The final flavor of the beer is all about the coffee.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied stout with low carbonation levels. A creamy bodied beer, but its mouthfeel is overall thin. Hint of booze in the finish that is increased due to the bitterness of the coffee.

Overall: This reminds me alot of Smells like Imperial Bean Spirit. A thinner version on the beer for sure. So as far as the fact that this is labeled as an Imperial Porter, I feel all these findings are valid for that beer style guidelines. Coffee is huge and fresh. I always love tugboat coffee. It does well in stouts and I really enjoy the brand just as a coffee roaster when drinking a cup of coffee. This coffee tastes a lot like the Sumatra beans that are used by Mikerphone when they brew bean spirit.

Pours out deep dark brown with a non lasting full head.
The coffee shines through with the smell.
Notes of coffee and maple are unmistakable.
Creamy smooth, medium feel.
Dangerously good sipping beer.

Released 8/14/19; drank 8/16/19 @ the Yarchives.

Black/brown appearance.

A rough pour yielded a nice, reverse-cascading dark tan head; thick, tree-rung lace.

Maple syrup, dark roast coffee & cream notes in the nose.

Silky, medium thick mouthfeel.

Maple & dark roast coffee bean flavors up front; cream & dark chocolate notes on the finish.

The maple & (crappy -- sorry Tugboat) coffee overpower what is a lovely imperial porter...hope they just release the base beer one day!

Delicious. Nose and taste has a good balance of roasty coffee and maple. Creamy and rich. Can drink this for breakfast or dessert after dinner. Fantastic.
