Let's shine a light on malt. For Perception of Depth, our new 6.5% brown ale, we shift the emphasis away from hops and on to the malt profile of the beer. Delicious and complex, yet accessible - this is for the no-frills crowd with good taste.

Compared to Phase Three P3 Winter Dunkel 3/25: Pours darker, similar aromas. More smooth caramel. Less toasted and grains. Very similar overall.

Pours the color of flat soda. Small heads but laces well. The nose is a little off, maybe sour in a way? The taste has some roastyness up front, and bitterness along with it. Almost has the taste of an amber ale with some roasted grains. Not sure what style they were going for here, but it doesn't really fit a brown ale, porter or stout. I guess I would call this a hoppy light brown ale. I've had a few beers from pahse three that people have raved about, but I haven't had one yet I would search out.

Canned 12/29/20; drank 1/10/21 @ the Yarchives.

Opaque brown/orange appearance.

A rough pour yielded a big khaki head; a thick curtain of tree-rung lace.

Acorn, cream, brown sugar & faint citrus notes in the nose.

Creamy, medium mouthfeel.

Cream & acorn flavors up front; mild brown sugar & orange citrus notes on the finish. As this warms, it becomes a bit more hop-forward.

A nice expression of the style; it's just a touch too hop forward, but as an American brown ale I can't really get that mad. A nice beer.

Sampled in a 5 oz taster glass from draft at Phase Three Brewing on December 31, 2020. Brewed with English malts and American hops. Notes of freshly baked bread and a hint of coffee.

Look: dark mahogany brown, lightly toasted marshmallow head
Smell: roasty and nutty, faint coffee grounds
Taste: very roasty, dark, dry, nutty. Just a touch of hops noticeable.
Feel: Medium body
Overall: One of the most roasty brown ales that I've tried. Not quite as clean as other browns I've enjoyed, but overall a very solid beer
