Eunoia 12 is a barrel-aged imperial stout that's blended from our our "stout recipe 2" that was aged in Heaven Hill casks for 18 months and our Munich imperial stout recipe that was aged in in wild turkey casks for 16 months. Tar black with no head to conceal a few specks of coconut lipids on the oily surface.
The peanut butter lusciously ribbons throughout the viscous body while the coconut adds a flourish that shifts your perception into a pastry you've never had, but feel like has never left you.
This is stupid. Absolute childhood translated into an adult beverage for a palate that has occasionally experienced the finer decadences of life.

Released 12/16/22; drank 12/20/22 @ the Yarchives.
Black/brown appearance.
An even pour yielded almost no dark tan head; no lace.
Peanut butter, chocolate & mild coconut notes in the nose.
Thick, creamy mouthfeel.
Peanut butter & milk chocolate flavors up front; mild coconut notes on the finish. As this warmed, the coconut really emerged as well as some faint booze heat.
No barrel, as per usual with the series, but this was pretty pleasant overall, if a bit too sweet.

Had on tap. Oily black pour with a brown collar. Huge peanut butter and coconut leading the smell with bourbon, chocolate fudge, and vanilla in the background. Taste is even more centered on the pb and coconut, well done with such fatty ingredients, barrel helps balance well, but I would imagine a whole glass of this would be tough given the richness, would love to find out. Feel is thick, heavy, warm, smooth, and well balanced, especially given the ingredients involved.

Pre-Release Bottle.
On the crack, a viscous motor oil pour. Floating amongst the jet black liquid is an abundance of deeply browned coconut flakes and some lazy, sludgy bubbles. No carbonation to speak of, although when the pop was topped there was an accompanying hiss.
The nose is pretty much a 50/50 balance of peanut butter and coconut influence. There's a subtle toastiness that gives it a peanut brittle component, countered evenly with notes of coconut cream.
The palate boasts a trait so rare in beer these days when discussing adjuncted BA stout; a beautiful balance of adjuncts and barrel. There's lightly bitter, oily coconut. Roasted peanuts that when combined with the viscous stout base gives all the peanut butter vibes you'd ever need. But on the back end there's Werther's caramel, bourbon smoked peanuts, peanut butter whiskey, and a touch of umami.
These finishing flavors tie this beer up in the perfect bow. While the peanut butter lover in me would've been perfectly satisfied with a pastry peanut butter and coconut macaron bomb, this hit me with the left hook and gave me an expertly balanced barrel profile as well. I've never been disappointed with anything from the Eunoia series, but something about the balance of each component here topped my list of what I've had the opportunity to try thus far. Huge thanks to Shaun and Phase Three for allowing me the opportunity to try this ahead of release schedule.
