Named after the Austrian family of emperors who dominated much of Europe for centuries, this classic style features a copper color and dryer finish than its Märzen style sibling. Vienna and Melanoidin malts lend the malt and biscuit notes while a touch of Tettnang hops provide soft bitterness and subtle spice.

This was another beer that I picked up late last year at Gary's in Wayne, as I hadn't had a Vienna Lager in quite some time. Like many others on here, Sam Adams Boston Lager was one of the first brews that got me into beer and this was on par with that as it was a decent take on the style that checked off all of the proverbial boxes...
A cross between amber and light nut brown, this had a solid radiance to it with a moderate amount of opaqueness. A fair amount of head topped this off although the lacing left behind was in the form of widely scattered spots in the middle of my glass. Caramel, bread, light tea spice, and gentle hops filled the nose as the taste had some malt and biscuit to round it out. Easygoing and balanced, this was a textbook take on the style that was fun and true to form, as it didn't stay in my glass for very long.
Dated 11/11 of last year on the label, this held up well and would probably be even better on tap, with a bit more liveliness and carbonation to it. The alcohol was nearly imperceptible as I could have a few in a sitting - even when it's not Octoberfest season. Once in a while, it's nice to have something to relax with like this!
