Imagine this beer as a hazy New England style IPA, just lighter in alcohol. Still brewed with grains known for haze and mouthfeel, and hopped late in the kettle. More dry hops during fermentation release the aromas of pineapple, citrus, and tropical fruit with a subtle earthiness. Just right for a mid-weight beer bursting with fruity hop character. Head toward the light.
Ingredients – Great Western 2-row, flaked oats, white wheat, crystal 20, Munich, cara-pils. Hopped with experimental hops: BRU-1 and HBC 431. Fermented with a British ale yeast.

Draft at Western Collective. Very lightly haziness, aroma brings some tropical notes, melon. Flavor also recalls the melon, mango, and comes in with a dry finish.

On tap at Bier:Thirty Boise ID, served in a nonic.
A: Unfiltered golden/straw body with a white head & lacing.
S: Fairly juicy aroma leads with pineapple and soft citrus fruits.
T: Follows the nose; minimal malt character, pineapple is the most distinct tropical fruit, maybe papaya and mango as well. Tropical, fruity, and juicy.
MF: Light body, lower carbonation, crushable.
O: A GOOD Pale!

this wasnt really all that hazy, despite the name, just a soft sort of unfiltered look to it, but not thick or dense or messy at all, and holding a pretty nice little head from the tap. aroma is neat, the hops smell new to me, highly botanical and almost like culinary and medicinal herbs, fragrant and interesting, not so citrus forward as is fashionable in these now, and i kind of like whats different about it. subtle strawberry and melon to the taste, a breakfast in the garden sort of complexion to the hops, really pretty cool, but there is a greenness about it too, not the too fresh greenness like it needs another week in keg or can, but like an overdosed, over saturated thing, like the pellets themselves, not way bitey or harsh, but a little over the line, and there is a vegetal bitter element too. the yeast is also weird, not what i would pick here, or else it just needs to be cooled down, a funny ester thats a little incompatible, and even though i like whats unique about the hops and the lighter texture for the style, the lack of refinement here is a little bit problematic. i want the yeast to taste like nothing in this style, and i want the hops to not loose their identity to their vehicle. this has a lot of potential, and i love the hop profile on its own, hopefully they can dial this one in...
edit: this beer apparently changes from batch to batch on the hops, but its also changing for the better from batch to batch, a little cleaner on the fermentation side, and a little more uniform and consistent on the haziness each time i have it. this latest one is quite good overall, the hops are killer for sure, mosaic led it seems, but the whole thing is much more drinkable, better carbonated, and without any green hop burn that i recall from earlier editions. glad to see these guys improving. i am upping some scores from the original review here.
