Collaboration with Melvin Brewing
For our third collab, we got together with our friends over at Melvin Brewing and collaborated on a West Coast DIPA recipe that utilized a hop new to both of us. To let the hops shine, the grain bill was kept simple and dry with pure Idaho malt, white wheat, and dextrose. The Melvin guys came down with some fun new Australian hops (Eclipse) which we put into a blend consisting of Eclipse, Citra, and Nelson Sauvin. This combination creates huge flavors and aromas of grapefruit, passion fruit, pine, with a danky-dry finish.

for how disappointed i was in the georgetown one, this one more than makes up for it, no surprise because melvin rules, but wow, this is really fantastic, one of the best beers i have had from western collective ever, no doubt. its cool that its clear, and the hop profile is just amazing, straight fruity pebbles, orange candy, fresh pineapple slices, peach rings, orange blossom honey, and purple hairy sativa, wow. whats even more impressive is the carryover from the aroma to the flavor, no drop off at all, its so pungent and distinct, has a long flavor climax, and a shockingly clean finish for how robust and strong this is. its a great ferment, nearly invisible, which i want in this style, shows progress from western collective for sure. id also love to know what the hops are, this mix of fruity candy and front end intensity is unique. i had this in close proximity to a dozen other ipa types and this one really stood out from the crowd. leagues better than the georgetown collaboration and frankly probably the best big ipa happening in the state of idaho right now, downright stellar. the melvin influence is undeniable, this drinks freakishly easy for what it is too. not to be missed!

16oz can from Boise Co-op. Clear golden with a small foamy head. Piney, floral, fruity hoppy aroma. Taste is resinous, pine, hop oil, sweet, fresh flowers. Mildly sticky and mouth coating. A nice throwback and great hop selection.
