a little old school but not overly malty, nice balance and well refined, flavorful but drinkable at this lower abv, a nice classic northwestern style pale ale overall here with good finishing bitterness, a piney hop complexion, and real fresh to me when i had it at their anchorage location. light amber in color, not too dark, but deeper than the name suggests for sure, more bronze than gold to me, dense inch of pure white head on it, lace as it drinks, nice looking overall. aroma is oily and woodsy to me, could be some simcoe or centennial driving this, pink grapefruit, vintage weed, light copper penny thing, minerals, toasted grain with just a little apparent sweetness, nothing from the yeast, simple in a good way. the flavor is malt first hops later, toasted bread, light caramel character, and then the hops which hit like gin with lemon, and a little spruce too, slightly higher bitterness for a pale but i like the way it helps this finish. smooth in body, not as light as the abv would lead one to believe, but not sweet or weighty like that, not too malty in that sense. well refined beer, familiar and maybe not the most original, but this is classic and well done, it will always be in fashion to me!
