Sometimes brewers need to brew something for themselves to keep them sane. Dom, our head brewer, wanted something strong and sweet, with little bitterness, but still a noticeable hop flavour. We coined the phrase Cornish ESB for this strong, very drinkable, beer Appearance Mahogany Smell Sweet, caramel Taste Sweet, caramel, subtle hop.

L- Pours a rich dark chestnut, clear (pour with extra care, it's bottle conditioned, and the sediment that I've left in the bottle lifts quite readily), pours with 5mm pale tan head. Holds unusually well, right down to the bottom. (Reassures me my 40 year old trad/nonic pint glass hasn't somehow acquired gas killing properties these days after all, it's just other poor beers make it seem so).
S- Some toasty malts, quite mild to me.
T- Dark, quite a puddingy richness, it's a solid deeper ale weight to this that befits it's 6.3%. There's some sense of a roasted plum/cherry fruity richness in the finish.
M- There is no hiding with the ABV here, as can happen with some dryer beers, the rich facet seems to bring it out.
O- For a small brewery under 5 years old I'd expect to find some glimpses of 'not quite right there', but a surprise here in that respect is that I note zero out of place or balance. This brew comes together beautifully, making a quite rich deep dark complex slow-supping fine ale. I'd very happily drink this again. If I blind tasted this and was handed it having been told it had 'won lots of awards, it's pretty stellar' I'd be happy to go along with that. It's not cheap, I just rechecked as I'd like to re-order some of this, but then I'm not surprised.
BB: 28-06-19 500ml bottle, bought £3.69 from BeersOfEurope.
