Doctor O. owes his name to a great criminal and his poison murders who were sentenced to life imprisonment for murder (poisoning by cyanide) on his wife.
In May 1955 he was detained in the Blokhuispoort prison in Leeuwarden, where he met criminal Adriaan L. who had also murdered his wife by poison (arsenic).
On February 5, 1958, some commotion arose in the Blokhuispoort because Adriaan L. was found dead in his cell. He turned out to be poisoned with cyanide. After a criminal investigation, Doctor O. was accused of killing Adriaan L.
This robust Russian Imperial Stout beer, brewed in the traditional way, is characterized by the fine taste of laurel drop and vanilla. With the right mix of hops and malt varieties, it has its own character. The jet-black color of this full-bodied beer refers to the actions of Dokter O.

33 cl bottle from Sterk @ home. Pours a pitch black colour and a dense light brown head with good retention. Aroma's of roasted and somewhat smoked malts, leather, some drop/licorice. Retronasal it's sweetish, drop, a bit smoked, vanilla. Flavour is moderate sweet, roasted. Warming alcohol. Body is medium, not as chewy or syruppy as expected. Finish is roasted moderate bitter. Not bad at all for a first release.
