Robust Porter from Amory’s Tomb Brewing. Received on 9/4/21 from @Rub_This_BBQ in NBW BIF #13. 12 oz bottle stored at home at 42 degrees. Reviewed 28/4/21. Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Undated can. Served at 49.4 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. Final temperature 55.5 degrees.
Appearance – 4.
First pour – Deep Amber (SRM 15), clear.
Body – Black (SRM 40), opaque. When rear-lite, same.
Head – Large (Maximum six cm, aggressive center pour), desert sand, high density, average retention, diminishing to an undulating four to seven mm crown fed by effervescence and a thin but complete rocky cap. Second pour produces a high density 1.6 cm head.
Lacing – Fair. Irregular bands of tiny to small bubbles.
Aroma – 4 – Lightly malty and sweet with hints of hops. No yeast.
Flavor – 4.25 – Begins moderately bitter and slightly dry with toasted malt being the predominant flavor, no hops, no yeast. No ethanol (6.3 % ABV, marked on container) taste or aroma. Gastric warming begins slowly and remains at a low level. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl.
Palate – 4 – Medium, watery, soft but lively carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 4 (After deducting 0.25 point for undated on personal container) Generally, a very good porter, although the alcohol level is a bit high. Appearance, aroma, flavor, and palate are basically right on the guidelines. I could (and would) drink multiple cans.
