12 ounce can - $2.49 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.
CANNED ON 07/26/19.
Appearance: Pours a clearish, reddish-pink body with a thinning, white head.
Smell: Tart-scented, tangy aroma of hibiscus spiced cranberry with a lacto-lemony backdrop.
Taste: Its slight, subtle maltiness and wheat quality are relatively muted by the cranberry and hibiscus (not particularly much pineapple, for me). Hibiscus has been a here today, gone tomorrow, but wait it's back type of ingredient. When used well, it's one I've particularly enjoyed. Thankfully, they kept the pineapple at a sensible degree, too, as well as the easily overdone cranberry. They got the color folks want (aided by the hibiscus), they got sufficient flavor, but they kept it from being like drinking a shot of juice concentrate, merely riding the line of pleasingly tart. Lingering fruitiness and mellowed tartness beyond the lively finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium-plus carbonation.
Overall: Like Creature's Athena, once you have a solid Berliner in place, then, it's time to start one-offing the thing. Many additives in beer these days are executed haphazardly with the incorrect assumption that more always means better. I'll admit, I pursed my lips in distrust at seeing not one but three added ingredients. However, it's handled rather well, making for a likable, amply flavorful and refreshing beer.
