This offering from Beacon Brewing Co., LaGrange, Georgia is my introduction to beer brewed with Kveik, the Norwegian equivalent of Farmhouse/Saison yeast. That might not be technically correct but it's an easy way to relate the concept. Kveik is a Norwegian dialect word for yeast so referring to it as Kveik yeast is like saying yeast yeast. Enough of that, go online and check it out if you want more information. Now to the beer....
Pours a hazy deep gold/pale amber. Abundant effervescence produces a large, dense, somewhat lasting, glowing white head that leaves a nice array of clumpy rings and strings lace. A thick white surface cap and clinging collar remain. An inviting aroma teases the nostrils: Aroma is musty and earthy with notes of pineapple, peach and a hint of apple, orange and lemon in a background of pale malt and a hint of white bread. Taste is bread and dough with citrus pith, dried apple, earthy herbal, floral and spice hints in the mix followed by a yeasty funk in the slightly wet finish. Somewhat dry except in the finish the drying aftertaste is bready and lightly bitter with faint spice and peach. Mouthfeel is light-medium bodied with moderate to high carbonation, smooth and a little juicy. Very easy to drink. A nice beer.
