Lager can take many different forms. This one is on a traditional note, brewed with a high amount of unmalted barley to achieve a fuller mouthfeel. We lagered it for many weeks on fine French oak that added a hint of toastiness to the herbal aroma of Saaz Special hops and slight woody bite to its refined bitterness. True timeless classic to be enjoyed any day of any century, so how about today?

Copenhagen 27/11 2023. 50 cl can from Beershoppen web-shop. Somber dark and grey can which looks like a set piece from the Blair Witch Project.
Pours unclear yellow with a big white head. Fluffy. Settles as fine, almost transparent layer for foam stretching to cover the surface of the beer. Moderate lacing.
Aroma is medium intense with a sweet malty odor mingling with a slightly smoky and a bit salty scent. Sweet pale malts, smoked wood, citrus and a whiff of salami.
Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, soft. lightly tingling texture.
Flavor is medium intense with a medium strong sweetness followed and balanced by a medium strong bitterness. Aftertaste isa bitter with a salty streak. Lingers for a while. Finish Is rather dry.
A bit strange concept with an Oak aged Lager. Could use some additional wood.

Pours a slightly cloudy, pale golden coloration witha large, foamy head and visible carbonation. Smells of doughy, slightly grainy malt and grassy, slightly spicy hops. Taste is a great balance of doughy, slightly grainy malt and grassy, herbal, spicy hops, with accents of citrus, black pepper and earthy oak. Finishes quite crisp, with a medium bitterness and some doughy malt and grassy, spicy hops lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and medium/strong carbonation.
While the oak-aging doesn't come through here all that much, except for quite subtle hints of earthy, toasted oak accents, this still makes for a very nice, crisp and clean lager that is well-balanced, with a light malt sweetness and herbal, bitter, spicy hops and just a touch of citrus pepping things up a bit. Overall, this makes for a well-balanced, easy-drinking lager that has got a certain richness and good body and mouthfeel to it.
