A distinctive, unique taste that is sour, slightly bitter, sweet in ripe fruit and pleasantly aromatic. Blackcurrant wonderfully complements our light wheat Sour Ale. The fruit give the beer a purple color, which is very unusual for beer and shows that we used a lot of fruit.

Shared can at local tasting. Deep red to purple colour, pink head. Moderate aroma of blackcurrants, hints of lactic acid. Medium sour flavour of blackcurrants and redcurrants, lactic acid.

Pours an opaque, deep purple coloration with a medium, fluffy, pink head. Smells of tart blackcurrant and lactose. Taste follows the nose, with a vibrant, tart, bitter black currant character and very strong, milky-sweet lactose presence. Finishes sweet and sour, with a medium acidity and some black currant and lactose lingering in the aftertaste. Soft mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
While I really enjoyed their Yummy Pastry Sour, I think that this one really suffers from a WAY overdone, milky lactose presence that I personally find rather unpleasant and never noticed this strong in any Kettle Sour I've had. Maybe they were trying to balance out the distinct bitter and acidic black currant notes, but some other fruit would probably have done a better job at that. While the sweet and sour notes are actually in a decent balance here, it's that strong, milky lactose note that really ruins this for me.
