Moutere might not be the New Zealand hop variety that gets the most attention, but having encountered it on the trip to the Pacific years ago, we knew there was a huge potential to be explored. For this single-hop NEIPA we tried both to extract the loveliest, fruitiest of its notes and see how much further we can push our haze game. Milky pale and smooth, this beer with a lovely creamy texture presents the beloved southern-hemisphere tropical notes with more intense grapefruity and piny edge than usual. In a way, something between the Pacific islands and the Pacific coast of the USA. Does it get any better?

Pours a pale orange coloration with a medium, fluffy, lasting head. Smells of light biscuity malt and tropical, citrus hops, with notes of kiwi, papaya and grapefruit, Taste is a good balance of light biscuity malt and fruity, slightly floral, spicy and resinous hops, with tropical and citrus notes of kiwi, papaya, lychee, grapefruit and lime peel, as well as hints of lemongrass, white pepper and pine Finishes with a light bitterness and some kiwi, papaya, lime peel and pine lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
This makes for an interesting NEIPA with a somewhat unusual flavor profile. I've certainly never gotten kiwi from any other hop variety before, yet it really stands out to me here, along with some lychee and other tropical fruit as well. There's also some quite zesty citrus notes here, with grapefruit and lime peel standing out, as well as some unique herbal and spicy undertones and just a hint of pine. Single-hop IPAs always make for an interesting experience and this one doubly so.
