On-tap in Meridian ID.

A: Appropriately-hazy wheat-beer appearance; hazed gold with a fluffy white head.

S: Very bright wheat-beer aromas pour out of the glass; sweet wheat, banana bread, spiced citrus rind; not overpowering clove but its there.

T: Banana bread is prominent; underlying blood orange is start-to-finish and supports the bready wheat well.

MF: Drinks 'bigger' than 5%.

O: There is a decent amount of complexity here for a Hefeweizen, which is not my favorite style by a long shot, however this one works well and I really think White Dog did a great job here.

Taster at brewery. Milky yellow, small head. Smells and tastes like a weizen. Blood Orange adds hints of bitter citrus, but not enough to obscure the weizen beneath.

i have been a little weary of more blood orange beers lately, it seems like literally everyone is making one of these, but its cool in the context of a hefeweizen, which is often served with some citrus, and i think they did a good job not letting this get too fruity or sweet, and leaving what appears to be a pretty decent hefe well enough in tact. its a little lighter than many in this style, not as fluffy of a wheat body to it, but i can still taste the wheat through the fruit which i like, and the yeast is definitely right, german to me, a little peppery, and with a classic banana ester to it, even a touch of a belgian note about it, a spiciness that works great with the pop of the citrus. the blood orange may not be fully natural, but its not fake or cheap tasting, its not sweet, and most importantly the dose is about right, an accent not a leader. the high carbonation helps a very flavorful beer be refreshing too, and even though i like this best when its ice cold, i also like it as it warms, holds together well, and the yeast doesnt run away with it. nothing epic here, but hard to be too critical of a beer that hits the mark, tastes like summer, and is fairly priced. well done on this one.
