A - Pours an opaque black with brown highlights, short light tan head, quick to fade to a wisp of a cap, and some minor lacing.
S - Fairly sedate nose, with a bit of earthiness, chocolate and molasses, dark bread, and a touch of coffee.
T - Opens with chocolate, dark fruit skin tannic notes, a bit of molasses with strong toasty bread malt notes, and a bit of ashy bitterness and coffee acidity closing things out, drawing a drinker back for another swallow.
M - Very mild carbonation, likely in part a function of the limits of the canning mechanism at the brewery. Moderate weight, and a dry finish that keeps the malty sweetness from building or becoming cloying.
O - I enjoyed this straight-ahead American Porter, and appreciate the nice, direct flavors and solid drinkability. The lack of carbonation was not present on tap, so I do not detract from original rating scores, but it is something to note for take-aways - drink promptly.
