this cold ipa style has me a little confused, but i am all about it. like is this basically just an india pale lager even though its an ale, like a colder ale ferment, like an india pale kolsch or something, not sure its genre bending, it just makes good chemical sense to ferment slowly a beer thats going to be dry hopped anyway, and to keep any real yeast character out of it. its good for crispness, dryness, clarity, cleanness, all the things i want in the base beer of a good hop profile more often than not, perhaps its a rebuttal to all the kveik yeast hazy ones out there, like getting in and out of a tank in a few days, obviously the cold ones take time, but whatever, im glad the style is tipping back this way even just a little bit. this is a good one too, very west coasty, clear and golden looking with a high white head from the tap, plenty of hop character in the nose but some bitterness too, and lots of nuance in it despite its sort of minimal nature, green banana, watermelon rind, fresh lemon and tangerine, juniper boughs, and just a little of that oiliness in feel. moderate bitterness but it pops without a ton of malt here, and very fast finishing. really nice proportions, cool hop profile, not radically unique or anything but it stands out nicely here as fresh and professionally done. real drinkable too with the dry finish and soft medium body and high carbonation. one of my favorite beers i had in here. awesome spot their taproom rules!
