decent but not amazing pils, i much prefer their helles. this has a little more grain richness than it needs, especially in summertime, and its not as dry as it could be for maximum refreshment. what it seems to leave in body, sweetness, and substance, it doesnt really atone for in flavor, like the trade off never quite pans out, at least for my tastes. not quite clear, short headed from the tap, and a little less lively than would be ideal. it smells german and old worldy on both the grain and the yeast fronts, which i both like and respect, and there seems to be a little extra hop to this, very northwestern without being aggressive or green or bitter, or our of place for the style, even if it has some light pine to it. the flavor has nice balance, the extra malt keeps the extra hops in check, and the true pils taste of the grain is nice, authentic and endearing, i just would prefer it dried out a little more. some light metallic character in there as it warms, but the lagering is solid and the yeast strain is right on. snappy hops on the swallow but not out of place, the whole thing could just stand to be tightened up just a little. perhaps more appropriate for cooler weather, this doesnt quite beat the heat, but they thankfully have their helles for that!
