A very light pour is needed to keep the coffee-milk colored head from overtopping the mug, soapy with average retention and blotches of lace. Dark amber-brown body, (clear but I can barely see my fingers) with dark amber highlights.
Malt forward smell, sweet, toasted and roasted character. Low hop smell, herbal and floral.
Semi-sweet with above average bitterness, roasted taste contributes the bitterness and holds the caramel flavor at bay. Coffee, chocolate and maple syrup blend with a slightly astringent twinge. Roasted flavor rises at the finish, drying it a bit as sweet flavor looses to bitterness. The aftertaste lingers a while, bitter and malty.
Medium plus body with lots of lasting carbonation, smooth and fairly well balanced. Malty and boldly flavored yet not overly hop-ed. Alcohol is well hidden, even as it warms.
