Back to Four Phantoms again, a pretty under the radar brewery on this site. I've had one really good beer from then and one that was solid so I want to keep trying them. I've had this one sitting for a few months actually, and forgot about it until tonight. Nothing special or gimmicky here, just an imperial stout
Pours completely jet black with a finger and a half of light tan head that quickly fades to a ring and leaves no lacing
Honestly there's not too much going on in the nose here, just a nice full roast with supporting notes of milk chocolate, dark fruit, mild sweet vanilla, and a touch of biscuity malt
The same can be said about the taste, though it's certainly solid for what it is. On the front end of the sip I'm tasting milk chocolate, light roasty coffee, and a hint of dark bread. The swallow brings notes of medium roast coffee, creamy vanilla, dark malt, and a touch of raisin
A medium full body pairs with gentle carbonation resulting in a beer that goes down easy, though is a bit thin for the style and the abv. Finishes completely dry though
This beer was painfully average. It is nothing awful, but for an imperial stout, it just did not give me any excitement. I've had much better non-adjuncted/barrel aged imperial stouts than this. That being said, it's not awful, but I won't try it again

A- A pitch black pour from the 16oz can into a tulip glass. A small puffy cap forms to a bit less than a finger high but falls fairly quickly to nothing but a tiny ring and lacing is rare.
S- Not exactly bold for the style, a bit on the milder side for what it is but there are some nice malts here. Cocoa, nuttiness and caramel right off the top with dark breadiness, fresh mashed roast barley and a hint of dark fruits. Again, kind of have to search hard here.
T- I hate to say it but for me it is just on the timid side for a 9% RIS. Again, it showcases the malts with a medium sweetness and a mostly roast barley profile with some toastiness as well. Chocolate and cocoa powder open the brew up into caramel, toasted nuts, a slight hint of dried fruits, biscuit and slight toffee notes.
MF- Medium bodied brew for the style with a low to moderate level of carbonation. Texture is a bit lacking with a foamy and somewhat creamy consistency.
Cocoa, caramel, roast malts and toasted nuts with a fairly mild overall total expression for the style.

When poured it has a fizz like a flat soda pop. Virtually no head. The mouthfeel is fizzy and not smooth. Leaves a syrupy feel on the tongue. The taste is a slight chocolate flavor, not unpleasant and is definitely drinkable. It smells sweet like a cola mixed with chocolate. I enjoy it but now that I’ve tried it, been there, done that. Next!

This is one of those brews where I just don’t know how to feel about it since I know nothing about what’s in it. There’s no description on the website or can that mentions lactose or oats or chocolate but I taste at least one or possibly all three. Whatever is in it it tastes very good, sweeter and softer than an RIS, it’s thick but very drinkable. I swear there’s chocolate in this. Very good but I won’t be searching it out again.

Pint can, very dark, black with a touch of chestnut brown at the edges, small head settles to a creamy film. Smell is pretty standard stout but not as robust as I would like. Taste is a pretty standard stout too, but a little bit off. Feel is too smooth and lacking carbonation. Overall, this is a good stout with some flaws. Most surprising thing is that the 9% ABV doesn't show up in smell, taste, or feel. I really couldn't tell the ABV difference in this versus a 6% beer.

Can in trade from Tfontana, thanks for the hookup!
Dark brown/Black in color with a decent sized tan head with moderate retention. Caramel chocolate and burnt sugars with a bit of earthy hops and light stone fruit. Creamy oily mouthfeel doesn't seem like 9% Drinks like a desert. Tasty

Tan fizzy head, medium retention and lacing, very dark chestnut brown color
Nose mild sweet caramel and toasted brown malts, a little chocolate, maybe lactose, faint roast, little biscuity brown, toffee
Taste creamy lactose milk chocolate and chocolate milk, light warming alcohol, little caramel, coffee roast, touch biscuity and a little nutty, light bitterness, drier finish, lingering cocoa and coffee dust, lactose milk chocolate
Mouth is med bod, medium to lighter carb, light alcohol, creamy lactose
Overall meh, more like a generic milk stout and not really imperial other than the alcohol, no bitterness, vey milky creamy butt a little thin, not much for roast or dark malts
