2023 Edition
L: Pours a dark caramel, cola-colored, forming a robust khaki head that is quick to fade, leaving behind a robust layer of foamy retention and a nice ring of lacing around the edge of the snifter. Held to the light, this beer has a crunchy, opaque umber hue.
S: Faint aromas of chocolate, malt, and vanilla. Light oak and bourbon.
T: Follows the nose. Dark chocolate, bourbon, and oak. Roasted and charred malt, imparting a moderate astringency. Transitions into light vanilla, some dark fruit (dates?). Finishes sweeter, creamy.
F: Smooth, silky, creamy mouthfeel. Medium-bodied. Light carbonation.
O: Good RIS. Flavors are potent, the aromas are somewhat lacking.

2021 Edition (13.6% abv): pours thin in body and color - lots of light around the edges of the glass and it's more porter than RIS in color. Nose is heavy on the barrel. The feel is fuller and somewhat creamy, but the barrel notes are dancing too closely to the oxidation line for my preference. Finish is appropriate.
