Imperial stout conditioned on banana chips, toasted walnuts and Madagascar vanilla beans. 355 ml can served cold into a chalice. A Durand purchase.
Appearance - Pretty close to black, very small wispy tan head. Not much retention either. Still looks slick in the glass.
Smell - Interesting. Lots of roasty notes, hints of vanilla and very definitely banana with some nuttiness (walnuts). The banana and nuts is cohesive the vanilla still works as it is a backing aroma here. Little bit of chocolate and bourbon too.
Taste - Good combo of flavors. The banana and nuts work well together, but interspersed with vanilla and bourbon and dark chocolate, there's one too many elements. But the execution is nice.
Mouthfeel - Full bodied, with a noticeable burn, low carbonation and a slick mouthfeel. Pretty much what you'd expect from a high quality imperial stout.
Overall - Not quite as enjoyable as the Triple Nilla, which nailed the vanilla element so well, but the banana walnut combo comes across noticeably and is well executed. Well worth a try if flavored imperial stouts are your thing.
