355ml can served cold into a chalice. Durand purchase.
Appearance - Virtually black with a decent three quarter finger of frothy tan head. Modest staying power and the wispiest traces of lacing left behind.
Smell - Oodles of chocolate, some slight bready quality and a touch of something my brain normally associates with spicy. Hints of vanilla and cinnamon in there too.
Taste - Quite chocolatey, middling bitterness, It actually tastes like a cake and the mouthfeel contributes to the taste sensation here. Spicier than expected, I was expecting a small punch of heat, this isn't hot per se, but has a little more kick than many others who do this style. Vanilla floats around as well.
Mouthfeel - There's a full creaminess that actually gives of bready like vibes - the closest sensation would be experiencing an Aero bar melt in your mouth (at least the way they were twenty years ago). Full bodied and with surprising carbonation, but the illusion is whether that's actually the carbonation or the peppers kicking in.
Overall - Well executed, even if the spiciness took over a bit too much and the building rich and creamy chocolate flavors ended up phased out a bit.
