Had on tap at the brewery.
On arrival a one finger white head was present on a reddish light amber body the head dissipates over a few minites to a small ring around the rim. Some lacing is left.
Aroma is of coffee and caramel. The coffee is from the coffee, but it seems lime the caramel is from the blonde roasted malts and probably a decent portion of caramel/crystal malts. Not super sweet but for a stout this is right on with the sweetness and is balanced nicely by the deep roast flavor of coffee. Overall this is a toffee smelling coffee beer.
Flavor is more bitter than expected from a not hoppy not dark beer. I'm not exactly sure how they did it but this comes off as a very dark beer. I'm sure the coffee helps but the malts come off as toasty, caramely, and toffee like. This is a blonde stout.
Feel is pretty dry and attenuated but the finish is long and leans heavily on the unforgettable caramelized sugars of the malts. Super smooth and roasty. Mouthcoatingly malty despite the obvious dryness. Honestly this is perfect.
Overall this is fun, and good at the same time, which isn't all that common. Flavorful, and stout like, despite the paler color. I've never had a blond stout before but I think a read about them once but honestly drinking them and reading about them is a different experience and the novelty is here but even if I closed my eyes, I am enjoying this beer quite a bit.
