16oz can. Bottom date stamp is '02/10/21 10:46'.
Murky, orange gold colored body. Debris particles sink to the bottom of the glass. Off white foam head with an orange tint. No lacing.
Aroma of passionfruit, and some pineapple, along with a woody tropical hint and lactose.
Taste is a mix of tart and sweet, with fruity flavors of pineapple, passionfruit, orange, grapefruit, apricot, and lactose. Salt is not really tasted but does build up to dry the lips. Brief lasting fruity aftertaste.
Medium mouthfeel. Higher ABV% is well hidden by the tart/sweet blend. No bitterness. Okay carbonation.
Even with four years in the can the flavor is distinctly fruity and has avoided oxidation. Quite salty on the lips.

CAN
Salmon-orange with a steady, rimming cap of snow white; lactic tang + gentle tropical fruit nose; raspberry yoghurt, ruby red grapefruit, pineapple, lemon sorbet, red currants and a slight earthy end; bright, smooth, low carb.

Got curious about this because it’s a Root + Branch collab, a brewery I’m seeing team up with other local heavyweights like HVB + Sand City.
Unfortunately, it’s almost exactly a year old - do these beers age poorly?
In the event, it’s a mellow but bouncy affair, not with the intensity of J Wakefield, but more somewhere between a melted orange ice pop and a Campari + soda.
I wish it was fizzier. I wish the label said if, being a gose, it actually had salt added. I wish I knew what dragonfruit is. I wish I had a fresh one.

Need to keep an eye on R+B…

Can't say that I ever heard of Public Access before so when I saw this at ShopRite Liquors in Little Falls earlier this week, I was intrigued. It didn't hurt that this was brewed in collaboration with Root + Branch as they have a good reputation and after having this, I can see why the two got together. Plenty to like here as this was easily enjoyable and a nice take on the style that would be perfect year-round!

This poured like pink grapefruit juice with a very thin rose head that quickly and quietly settled down. Only a scattering of spots remained on my pint glass once I sipped this as the lacing was nearly nonexistent. Lots of pineapple, dragon fruit, hibiscus, and yeast as the taste was bright, bubbly, and balanced out by a tinge of salt. More lactic acid and acetate would have made this better but as it turned out, this was plenty enjoyable with hints of deep orange, potpourri, mango, papaya, and funky woods in the taste to give this the depth that it needed. Plenty juicy, funky, and subtly slick, this was plenty sweet and lively as it almost came across as champagne without the Brut.

Heck, I couldn't even taste the alcohol as I only felt a bit of it right before I finished this off. Dated 2/10 on the bottom of the can, this was plenty fresh and boisterous without having any artificial nature to it. As much as this was exotic in undertone, this was familiar at the same time since it didn't have any rough edges to the hops, yeast, or range of flavors. The label grew on me over time and do did the liquid in time as this was a textbook example of the style that was both hip and reassuringly comforting at the same time.

pineapple and dragonfruit imperial gose, hyper modern, another one of those brands that i dont really think is a brewery, so annoying how this is becoming a thing. i guess there is a business model in the east, buy a few fermenters and let the instagram and art school kids rent them out and launch a brand, at least the beer is decent, and i cant hate on that. this is pinkish orange red and hazy and pretty, almost backlit on its own, with a big frothy white head from the pint can, which as soon as i realize its as strong as it is, seems like a dangerous dose. it has some tang but isnt really sour, some sweetness but isnt really fruity, i suppose a punch sort of vibe to it, melted sherbet without necessarily trying for it, no salt at all for calling itself a gose, but it does have some drying element in the finish. seems wheat based for sure, plenty of fruit vibrancy and body, extracts maybe yeah, but well timed, dosed, and proportioned. i hate what modern trendy beer is becoming, and i miss a good old fashioned no frills craft specimen in almost any style, but this is better than the competition and quite good, price be damned. it sucks that this is reality, but i can think of worse alternatives...

Can from the Packie
Lightly hazy dark pink in color with a small bubbly white head with a pink tint that dissipates quickly. Earthy sour dragon fruit with light pineapple and lemony tartness. Lightly salty. Reminds me a bit of sweet and sour sauce.
