I am trying this beer off the tapper as part of a three sample flight. It poured a nearly opaque dark mahogany amber with ecru head that is leaving some lace. The scent had subtle pine resin and roast notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with dark semi sweet malt base with subtle pine resin hop and light roast highlights. The mouthfeel was medium in body and had good carbonation. Overall it is a solid beer.

Bottle from the brewery.
Jet black with brownish edges, ample tan foam and a halo of spotty lacing around the glass. Ring around the edge with a broken surface skim.
Aroma has a clean grassy hop character, and toasty roast malt. Medium bodied and creamy with a resiny pine bitterness. Ample roast malt flavor, pleasant and satisfying. This style is seldom seen these days, and this one is classically done. Overall it’s a nice black IPA, perfect for a cool Fall evening.
