L- Very deep chestnut brown. Pours with huge pillowy 5cm pale tan head, despite being rested, chilled and poured slowly – pour veeery slowly down the side of the glass. Amazing head, it’s receding remarkably slowly.
S- Malty, toasty and some piquant dry smelling trad hops.
T- Quite dry, somewhat sour (in a ‘homebrew’ way) on first sip of beer this evening, toasty malts, into a hoppy finish. The sourness seems much less evident on the 2nd/+ taste coming over more as refreshingly bright/dry. It has a striking amount of flavour based upon a relatively modest 4.5% ABV.
M- For a dark beer it’s refreshing, moderate hoppy-dryness is more evident than any richness.
O- I was concerned at the first sign of sourness, but it was on a clean palate. Now 1/3 way through everything seems in balance and I’m enjoying this as a flavour-packed, relatively light and refreshing dark beer.
£3.95/500ml bottle from shop (The Teardrop Bar) in Oxford Market. BB 2/2020.
