Picked up a cold 750 ml bottle at the brewery last week. Excited to add a beer to the BA DB from a new to me brewery.
Im pouring at cellar temp into my snifter.
Popped the cap and pour into my glass. Some smokey CO2 rises from the mouth of the bottle.
I pour very gentle but this beer is foaming up huge in my glass and I only get maybe 5 oz poured and a glass full of foam.
this foam does settle to a sturdy .5 cm covering that remains through most of the sampling. The foam also leaves dense lattice when I take a sip or swirl the glass.
Aroma on this beer is roasted malts and dark chocolate, some charred wood and a bit of whisky. Not really boozy and the whisky note is mild. Maybe a little leather on the nose too. Overall the nose is fine, a little mild but okay.
The first sip reveals a medium body with a bit of a slick mouthfeel. Carbonation is large and tingly, very present physically.
Flavor starts with dark chocolate and and roasted notes. Maybe a little coffee ground in there and then rolls to some whisky and vanilla notes. I dont get any hops nor any peppery or hot booze notes and the beer drinks pretty easy for its higher ABV (10%).
Lingering flavor is roasted malts and whisky long after the swallow.
A decent barrel aged stout, that could be a bit thicker in body but otherwise its fine. Im curious to see how the cans of non-barrel aged mythical czar compare to this.
