From the 12 oz bottle in a snifter. This solid brew pours a dark
reddish brown with a nice head of off white foam that settles to a
thick ring, thin light layer, and shows some nice light lacing. Nose of
lightly spicy rye, rich caramel, and dark breaded malt notes. Flavors
hit the mark with dark bread, brown sugars, caramel, light rye, and
some light cherry and peach notes. Nice mouth feel; medium body,
smooth, medium light carbonation, and a sweet yet balanced finish
of rye and a touch of herbal hops.
Overall----more great stuff from a great local brewery!
Cheers

Pours a dark brown with a heavy burgundy tint to it. Transparency is slightly obscured, landing the lightly hazy territory. Head is two fingers of off-white foam. Aroma is bready, nutty, earthy malts with sly caramel, fig, and toast intermixed. Some light grassy and spicy hops help mix it up a little. Rye is the biggest quality, but it sits in the background. It's most notable moment is searing the aroma to a close, wrapping it up with a dry spice. Flavor profile is toffee and fig with bready, caramelly, and toasty malts underneath. Nutty malts are present too, but an afterthought to the first three malt notes. Faint spicy and grassy hops help elevate it a little. Again, rye helps bring things to a close here, but allows the intermediate notes a bit longer to sing before drawing things to a close. Mouth feel is medium in thickness with a rather plush, soft effervescence that hardens up right at the end. Overall, rye spice is good, and balanced within the aroma and flavor profile. It sits oddly between heavy and light, making it a decent option for either sipping on the hot patio, or sipping near a fireplace in the heart of winter.
