She's All That is crystal clear and a deep, sullen, bloody red ruby colored beer. The head is dense, cream colored, and shows decent enough retention.
I know the label says this is a blackberry porter but at first blush, the aroma is all blueberry. Vanilla makes enough of an appearance to lend support. And below that, just enough earthiness to give the nose some amount of structure. Unfortunately I don't get many of the typical aromas I would expect in a porter. Which is a shame because a little chocolate mousse and roasted coffee would go nicely with the ripe berries the aroma does provide.
She's All That isn't as full bodied and lush as I think a porter could be and that's probably because of the fruit element thinning things out a little. The flavor at least does taste more like a blackberry with the requisite hint of tartness. Blackberry dominates the flavor, giving me an impression of blackberries picked at the peak of ripeness. Unfortunately there are no flavors of chocolate, roasted coffee, or other dark malt flavors to give the impression of drinking anything other than a blackberry ale of some kind.
If She's All That were marketing itself as some kind of blackberry ale, I'd like it more and score it higher. Because it calls itself a porter, there are certain elements of flavor and mouthfeel I look for which I just find lacking here. Unfortunately for me that means this porter just isn't all that.
