Pint pour on draught at the brewery. It's attractive: an inky black color with a half finger, creamy, light khaki head and thick, long-lasting lacing. The smell is rather subdued due to temperature but offers bakers chocolate, burnt coffee, earthy char, and a whiff of citrus. As it warms there are also notes of anise and caramel. Its taste largely follows suit with bitter, dark roasted malt, charred nuts, burnt coffee grounds, and hints of anise and sweeter chocolate. There are also hints of citrus and spice from the Cascade hops. The finish is dry and bitter. This ale is medium-bodied with an appropriate level of carbonation, and it drinks easily for 8% ABV. Overall, Call It A Night is tasty and enjoyable although it's a bit one-dimensional in its bitterness. It lacks the balancing malt sweetness of Carton's Epitome and other leaders of the style.

DATE: February 20, 2021... OCCASION: a relaxing Saturday night with the boys... GLASSWARE: Duvel tulip... to clarify: this site has the ABV at 7.8, CM's site says 8, and the crowler I bought reads 8.1....close enough? this pours a dark black body, appropriate to its style, with a craggy head colored tan, akin to beach sand... it settles to thick, uneven clumps... despite its appearance, it renders the bright, citric qualities of its the three-headed hop monster... pine, grapefruit, lemon, and orange mingle with subtle spices and a hint of chocolate and toffee... its palate is lively, medium to full-bodied, acidic, and punchy early... by its end, a smooth transition bites with some heat--appreciable if not a bit cloying at the finish.... the pine and citrus are balanced with tootsie roll, charcoal, toasted malts, and sweet sugars... this is a nice beer for the winter, with the strength to invigorate during the cold and snowy nights...
