DATE: October 15, 2021... OCCASION: home alone after a good week of work and sports--and revisiting a fest from last weekend hosting brother Jer... GLASSWARE: Otto's pub club mug... comes out of an hours-old crowler a frothy, off-white head atop a murky, iced tea-hued mug... roiling bubbles can be discerned just below the ring of froth... sweet biscuit and caramel play on the nostril...light noble hops also are present... lighter cinnamon and herb add another layer, albeit shallow... highly sippable, this flirts with a light-bodied mouthfeel but retains enough malt to cause a bit of chewing... ineffectual at the teeth, it leaves the throat with the expected maltiness of a fest, clean and unassuming... the caramel makes a sweet central groove, while light herbs and hops approach a pilsner-like quality... I don't get the toasted aspect the brewer suggests, but not a big deal...this balances well enough to encourage sips without truly providing a definite profile apart from the genre--nothing wrong with that! Marzens tend to marginalize, and this is another solid offering that plays by the rules and gives the season what it requires...
