DATE: January 4, 2021... OCCASION: celebrating the end of the Christmas break and the first Browns' playoff team since 2002... GLASSWARE: Duvel snifter... pours a thick, dense orange amber body that staunchly supports a nearly three-finger head rife with craggy bubbles and frothy white pillows.... fresh an alluring from a two-week canned crowler... white wine, fragrant lilac, berries, dank basement, orange and lemon, boozy grapefruit, and a bit of raspberry--an odd mix of aromas that offers intrigue... this sips with a smoothness and late warmth that wins, especially on this cold snowy night... it actually bypasses the teeth a bit and runs a chewy mouthfeel to a dry finish... full-bodied and worth slowly reckoning, it builds a weight that lets its 8+% ABV ease in... the berry is resounding, with the orange, lemon and grapefruit softly retreating... its profile is an interesting mix of straight-up DIPA and a nuanced, aromatic bitterness....
