listing this as an american wild ale seems so wrong, because this beer is so decidedly italian, but its probably the closest thing we have for this delicious funky brew. i liked this one a little less than the grape one, but as a base farmhouse type, its also pretty special, and demonstrates a unique fermentation profile as well, not the samey cultured critters we have all gotten used to here in the states. instead we have a vibrant mix of agents that come together in a pretty unique way, and its easy to appreciate in the absence of fruit this time. the wood is a cool vector for the funk, this one a little less tart and a little more funky and bretty to me, notes of white wine in this one, some citrus sharpness, and a neat fresh herbal layer like verbena and white tea, more and more complex as it warms, really rustic and old worldy, and also really well refined. i had not heard of these guys before i found these couple of bottles, but now its a brewery i really expect big things from, and hope to track down more of their offerings. this is really well executed and thoughtful wild ale, with the right amount of acidity and wood on it, and really something quite drinkable. stoked on these guys now! they apparently make wine there too, which i would love to try as well of course!
