Deep brown with light easily passing through the edge of the glass. Excellent, lasting head throughout the tasting. It leaves slippery blanket lace, i.e. nothing permanent.
The smell is light (for a stout) but I do pickup on burnt patent malt. Some semisweet chocolate.
Darker flavors but not much coffee considering the title. This is more semisweet chocolate. Quite bitter. The body is richer than the Irish dry stouts but more than an Oatmeal Stout. The finish is bitter. Overall, this is an easy-to-drink beer but it isn't a knockout offering.
