While touring through the Forgottonia region of western Illinois, the namesake brewery is an essential stop. There was plenty of parking, a taco truck, and a large patio outside on a Saturday afternoon. Inside it was fairly cozy, with an L-shaped bar in back with windows looking in on the brewery. A large, iconic mural of Neal Gamm posing with a Forgottonia highway sign circa 1970's was painted on a large interior wall.
Ambitious beer selection, including an oak aged Oatmeal Stout, a wet hop IPA called WAHOPS (it sadly tasted like Hawaiian Punch was added), Vienna Lager, DDH NEIPA, blonde coffee Stout, German Helles, watermelon Berliner, and a ginger-spiked Tripel. Some were more successful than others.
Service at the bar was great, our bartender was done with her shift and joined us for a beer. We chatted about the local beer & food scene. Overall the experience was good, and i'd return if passing through Macomb again.
