Appearance is the classic cloudy light-amber yellow. Pours with a nice foam in the tall Peroni lager glass with long-lasting bubbles. Mouthfeel is sudsy and sparkling with some substance. Pleasant aroma of spice.
The German esters are well in evidence but not overblown. Slightly sweet with a nice touch of banana. Cloves are fragrant but also restrained. Overall this is malty and rich. It's a little stronger than typical Hefeweizens, but it doesn't taste noticeably alcoholic. Bready and yeasty notes.
Really a well-made and flavorful brew that does justice to the German style. Sampled at the Otay Mesa brewery and tasted from the growler at home.
