Handsome amber color in the glass with an ample head. Plenty of carbonation on the tongue. Brewers said this is made with English malt at their small-scale facility.
Warm and malty with a sprightly edge. The flavor immediately makes me think of a brown ale. The distinguishing feature is a nutty flavor, even a pecan taste. Overall this is rather tangy and light bodied, making for a refreshing quaff. Some hoppy notes with a modest bitter aftertaste.
This is an interesting and quite different version of a Pale Ale, English or otherwise. On tap at the brewery on Otay Mesa in far southeast San Diego.
