Attractive pile of beige-tinted foam in the Crooked Line tulip. Adequate carbonation with a fine-grained mouthfeel. Aroma of roasted grain and cocoa.
Rich and loaded with malt, but not really very sweet. Some residual sugars like a Milk Stout. Just a hint of cinnamon with some dark fruity flavors and a little raisin taste. A touch of malted milk and some burnt sugar. Quite smooth and mellow with flavors blending nicely together.
No hop flavor to speak of but some bitter chocolate in the finish. A little winey in the aftertaste. A smooth and satisfying dark brew. Not an excess of spice. From the jug filled at the brewery on Otay Mesa where they have boxes of Abuelita Mexican-style hot chocolate displayed on the bar.
