Michigan Brewing 'Dubbel'

A unique dubbel from my favorite brewery. Poured out to a light cherry brown color that was cristal clear. No head, no lace. Very low (if any) carbonation. Aromas of dark fruits, sweet malt, some grain and light hops. Taste was medium full bodied and packed with complexity; an array of roasted and sweet malts blended over fermented fruits and bananas, a touch of herbal hops and earth was noted as the alcohol had a slightly warming effect toward the finish. Mouthfeel was smooth and slightly sharp, sans carbonation. Drinkability is good, but no more than one at a sitting. Nice. Now i'd like to try their version of a tripel.

They call it a dubbel, so that's how I'm listing it. Supposedly the same as the Cherry dubbel, without the cherry (so I listed it with the same alcohol content).

Apparently it was supposed to be a tripel, but didn't attenuate as much as expected. It's very unique, and quite good. The taste could be described as 2 parts Maibock to 1 part Tripel. It's got the maltiness of the bock, with the fruityness & spicy-twist of the tripel... it's a pleasant mix & an interesting brew.

I won't rate it according to style (which style?).

A: Clear, bright, golden in colour (a shade darker than a pils). Pours with a fizzy, white head, which tries to lace, but there's no retention.

S: Tons of bready malt, some fruityness, with a little spice.

T: The alcohol is hidden beneath the intense malt flavour, with a little appricot & pineapple, and hints of earthy spicyness. There might be some bitterness for balance, but I'm not tasting it!

M: Moderate to full body is a little syrupy. Light to moderate carbonation.

D: AWESOME considering its strength. This one could really knock you out.

If they came up with a better name/style, they could certainly market it!
