Draft at Koto. Black pour with a thin ring of tan head. Sweet roasty malt aroma. Taste is sweet, roasty bitterness, burnt toast. Simple, straightforward.

a tasty oatmeal stout, maybe not quite as full bodied, smooth, and hearty as i generally look for in the style, especially this time of year, its a touch sweeter than it needs to be while also feeling just a little thin, although the flavors are good. it just seems like it needed another couple of days in the fermenter. shiny near black from the tap, short tan head on it, not all that creamy or anything. the aroma has some thick middle malt character, raisin and tobacco notes, molasses too. the low end is nicely roasted, a coffee layer to it, slightly desserty overall, but not at all one dimensional. the oats give this some weight but it doesnt quite have that silky texture i like from them, and the sugars linger long on the palate here, seems less refined than their best beers. this would be better drier, it would be neat with a pinch of smoked malt too, more earthiness seems needed. not bad, actually quite good if you dont mind them sweet, but more bitterness for balance out of the roast and less residual sugar would do a lot for this, more oats too, it doesnt quite get to that textural point. decent not great.
