an overly sweet kind of fat tire knock off of an amber here, kind of the generic craft beer default, and seemingly pretty uninspired. that said, its not bad in terms of quality, and is probably the best or second best of the beers i drank when i visited their spokane taproom. its quite obvious though that cider is their focus, this beer seems like somewhat of an afterthought. its got a deeper brick red color to it, a decent off white head from the tap, fine clarity, and a rich aroma of long cooked caramelized grain sugar, toffee, and light nuttiness as well, missing any hop balance to me, and not as clean as it should be on the fermentation, which was a common theme across most of the beers i had here. there is a little bit of a chemical but not quite phenolic thing to this that thins it out, it actually serves to cut some of the caramel malt sweetness, but it makes the beer taste cheap and almost careless to me, i did not want more than one of these. light red apple notes and brown sugar as this finishes, a sort of autumnal vibe, but its too sweet and weird on the ferment to be real enjoyable. i didnt love any of the beers i had here...
