Taster at Red Lion. Bright golden pour, clear, thin white head. Grainy aroma and taste. A bit too much on the lager side, not enough of the hops. Still solid.

a very light but pretty clean kolsch style here, cold conditioned, old worldy enough, well refined, and one of the easiest drinking beers on the list here when i was in. they seem to have a pretty good handle on the classic styles here. this is very light, even as the style goes, without a fuller flavored classic german maltiness in here, its barely even crackery or anything, seems more like an overly cleaned up pils than the kolsch types i am used to from europe, but i like how refreshing and brisk this is, and am happy to sacrifice a little grain flavor for the thirst quenching value this has. the yeast is right for the style, adding a little earthy flavor layer and fermenting this to bone dry, well conditioned. the hops are noble, tea-like, and only mildly bitter, anything more than this would be too much, and the overall balance here is very good. carbonation is on the lighter side for the style, but with the minimal body i dont really need it to be explosive or anything, and this feels right, especially with some of the nice food they do in here, i thought the chili was excellent by the way. overall an easier than most example of the style, but well made, and a good first impression here from these guys.
