a red velvet cake inspired stout here, served all creamy on nitro i believe, and they even put some kolsch foam on the top like frosting, what a cool idea and even better execution, this is by far and away the most ambitious and best tasting beer i have had from these guys to date, they should keep it going. the cake character of the stout is awesome, its got rich vanilla notes, a deep fruitiness, and some nice roast from the dark grain, it feels wet and dense like fresh baked cake too, awesome mouthfeel for these flavors. i get some dark chocolate and the slightest tang in here too. its definitely a little sweet, but not too much, and it feels rich and fancy to me. the kolsch cream on the top is a cool touch, even adds a little necessary lightness to a beer that might otherwise be too dense to drink much of. there has to be vanilla in this, its strong for me as this warms, but there is so much else going on, really does taste like liquefied red velvet cake somehow, they absolutely nailed this. never seen anything quite like this, and it puts other red velvet inspired beers to shame, ballast point comes to mind here. a total winner, creative and wonderfully pulled off, they should be proud of this one! a standout in an awesome session...
