real solid new one here, perfect for this time of year, nice to see a fair few american breweries taking these on lately, seems in vogue this fall and winter, and im into it. this is a nice example of the style, not as robust on the roast and bitterness as some, but i love the drinkability, the fact that the lager yeast can still be tasted, and the overall quality, which i would rank towards the top of the warfield beers ive had to date. dark brown in color and blocking out much light, but not black nor particularly viscous looking, frothy creamy tan head from the tap an inch high, looks right, good shine to it too. the aroma and flavor hit on wet earth, bread yeast, good coffee, and a hint of raisin but this isnt sweet, some brown ale style chocolate malt to it, but a nice drying yeast thats loosely german and really complete in its work. smooth to drink on, short of crisp but i dont need more than what this offers, its a mellow pint, infinitely sessionable, and true to style without lacking its own identity. simple in the right ways, good attention to detail here, and all up a top warfield beer in my experience. awesome after a chilly day in the woods, this place is so cozy in the winter!
