a really nice little honey beer, wheat based, with a bold and natural honey profile but never running too sweet. i think sometimes a slightly more substantial base beer can flatter and enhance honey, counterintuitive as that may seem, the ones that are super super light often lose the honey character either by being light handed with it for balance for by fermenting it all out for the sake of it being dry, but with some wheat or some crystral malt and a little body, more honey can fit in, there is some structure for it to cling to, and i often find a more flavorful honey profile that way, and even though this stays pretty light, that is the case with this one too, where the wheat serves as a vessel for the honey, especially at the center of the taste journey, the honey is fresh and floral and peaking, its in front of even the grain in here, waxy and polleny and springy and kind of raw to me, but only a little bit sweet. there is some slight concentration to this too to me, like it was boiled a long while, and that adds a certain depth of flavor that few of these have, honey blonde and honey kolsch types etc. its got a slightly richer color, lacks in carbonation a bit which slows it down a touch, but it has a nice wheat malt core, is very light on the hops, and has some complexity with the purity of this honey coming through. could be a pounder with better bubbles, but i dont hate the slower ride here, especially in a food context. a couple of tweaks from outstanding, but i liked this one a lot. warfield has always been solid, but i liked the food and beers as well as ever in our most recent visit! great use of the honey here.

Taster at Shade City Brewfest. Golden pour, light haze, small foamy white head. Aroma and taste are honey first, sweet, light bready flavors underneath.
