the sweet potatoes make a nice addition to a very light and drinkable brown ale, one of the more approachable beers on their menu here when we were in, and really a pretty excellent brew, lightly spiced, malt first, and without much residual sugar, exactly what i want in a seasonal brew like this. subtle cinnamon and clove to this, but its not like pumpkin spice or anything, and its the earthiness, rather than the sweetness of the potatoes that really come out in this, skins and all it seems, very organic and deep, cool in a brown on the lighter side because they really stand out. i get a little hop bitterness in this too, unexpected in the style, but its a nice counterbalance to the potential richness of this, and i think its a nice layer, especially as this warms and the chocolate and brown sugar and spices come up a bit. smooth to drink, not real heavy on the carbonation, but it doesnt need to be. nicely flavored, subtle and good, a cool take on the style and one of their beers that really stood out to me as very good. excellent execution, cool use of the sweet potatoes, and not overdone on the spices. tasty!
